The Epistle of James is now Available!
October 3, 2017 by Sam Storms
Several weeks ago I announced that my entire series of sermon notes on the book of Hebrews was available on my website. Today I’m happy to tell you that all twenty-two lessons on the book of James are now posted. If you are unfamiliar about how to access these documents, simply click on Resources at the top of the Home page, and then on Articles. Look under Biblical Studies, and at the bottom of the list you will see both Hebrews and James. These twenty-two articles are essentially a verse-by-verse analysis of James. I hope and pray you will find them helpful in your life or ministry, or in both.
Are Christians Obligated to give 10% of their Income to the Church?

Are Christians Obligated to give 10% of their Income to the Church?
By: Sam Storms
There are few questions that plague Christians more persistently than the issue of whether we are morally and biblically obligated to give 10% of our income to the local church. If not 10%, then how much should we give, and how might we know? Are Christians in the age of the New Covenant required to abide by laws given under the Old Covenant? Other related issues, especially for pastors, include a proper salary for ministers of the gospel, whether or not it is ok to ask...Read More ➔

Praying for a Resurrection from the Dead
By: Sam Storms
Enough time has passed since the controversy at Bethel regarding praying for a resurrection that I thought I would share a few brief comments. Simply put, is it biblical and prudent for us today to pray for a resurrection of the dead? To come straight to the point: Yes, it is. This issue was everywhere in the news when Olive Heiligenthal, two-year old daughter of worship leader Kalley Heilingthal, died in her sleep. Bethel Church in Redding, California, came together f...Read More ➔
A humble (I hope) reply to my good friend John Piper on the question of whether it is biblically permissible to refer to a woman as a “pastor”

A humble (I hope) reply to my good friend John Piper on the question of whether it is biblically permissible to refer to a woman as a “pastor”
By: Sam Storms
In the fall of 2019, I wrote several articles on my blog arguing that the NT allows for the possibility of a woman being referred to as a “pastor”. My friend Denny Burk responded to each one on his blog, to which I posted a friendly response yet again on mine. You can read those earlier articles here on my blog. More recently, my good friend John Piper took up where Denny left off and argued that it is “misleading,” “unwise,” and &ldq...Read More ➔
Why Do We Read Scripture?

Why Do We Read Scripture?
By: Sam Storms
By Andrew Wilson [This article appeared on Andrew’s blog on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. In light of the fact that we are reading through the Scriptures this year at Bridgeway, I thought this would be an encouragement to all.] Sometimes I use this blog as a place to jot down preaching and teaching ideas that occur to me, so I can find them later. (Come to think of it, that's pretty much all I use this blog for, it's just that some jotting takes more time than oth...Read More ➔
How Jesus defines “Love”

How Jesus defines “Love”
By: Sam Storms
One of the more shocking contrasts that we see between the mindset of the 21st century and that of Jesus in the 1st century is the way in which each defines “love”. Let me explain. This reality was brought to my attention as I studied John 11 in preparation for preaching the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead. John Piper points out in his message on this passage that “If you walk through life thinking that minimizing pain is the essence of lov...Read More ➔
