Enjoying God Blog

1

As many of you know, several years ago I participated in a panel discussion with John Piper, Doug Wilson, and Jim Hamilton on the subject of eschatology. It was a two-hour event that was hosted at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis.

A few weeks ago I was invited to do something similar at Frontline Church here in OKC. The major difference is that I was the only participant. I presented the various schools of thought on eschatology for about 50 minutes and then answered questions for another 45.

The only thing that may make this slightly difficult for you is that the people were given several pages of charts that portray the various positions, and I based my talk on what they had in hand. But I think you should still glean much from the time. I hope you enjoy it. Here is the link.

I listened to your presentation (but not the following Q & A) and found I was able to follow without the handout. I am with you 100% as to the rapture occurring after the tribulation and with you 90% as to amillinisalism (I have and read your book). The pretribulation rapture theory seems entirely wishful thinking. Whether Jesus will rapture the church before or after the tribulation is very important because if one expects not to go through the tribulation but then finds that he is going through the tribulation there could be great discouragement and one might reasonably wonder what else they have been taught that is not true. On the other hand, whether we are in the millineum now, or whether there will be a future literal one thousand year reign of Jesus on earth, really does not affect how a Christian lives. Thus, I think it more important to persuade believers that they will go through the tribulation and be alive when the antichrist is causing havoc on earth than it is to persuade believers that there won't be a literal one thousand rule of Jesus on earth after his second coming.
